On Tuesday, February 11th, the Whitewater Whippet Gymnastics Team competed against the Elkhorn Elks in their last dual at Elkhorn High School.
The gymnasts had a successful meet concluding the competition with a team score of 109.325.
The highlights of the meet on the Varsity side included freshman Caleigh Yang scoring a record high on the Balance Beam with a 6.8 and a 7.775 on the Vault. Junior Jenna Caldwell scored an 8.1 on Vault, 7.1 on the Uneven Bars, and a 7.675 on the Floor exercise. Freshman Halee Peters scored a 7.95 on Vault and a 7.0 on the Uneven Bars. Sophomore Anna Ejnik scored a 7.475 on the Floor exercise and a 7.5 on the Vault. Freshman Maddy Donnelly scored a 7.475 on Vault.
On the Junior Varsity side much improvement was made with freshman Brooke Bazeley scoring a high score on the Balance Beam with a 4.8, Julia Feit competing Vault for the first time scoring a 6.3, Ashly Xochipa scoring a record high on the Vault with a 6.9, and Brenda Aguilar scoring a 6.6 on the Floor exercise and a 7.05 on Vault. Brenda also competed Varsity Beam scoring a season high of 6.35.
These Whippet gymnasts will be back in action this Saturday, February 15th, at the Platteville Invitational. Come on out and support your Whippet athletes!

The Whippet Swimmers raced to a 6th place finish at the Southern Lakes Conference Meet on Saturday, February 8. The team earned 9 medals and swam 16 individual best times. Earning medals at the meet were: Devin Bazeley, 4th place in the 200 Individual Medley and 5th place in the 100 Butterfly; Jack Mayer, 2nd place in the 50 and 100 Freestyle; Shawn Chan, 6th place in the 50 Freestyle; and the 200 Freestyle Relay team of Devin Bazeley, Shawn Chan, Jon Chan, and Jack Mayer took 3rd place. Earning new times on the Top 10 All Time Individual Events list were Jack Mayer in the 50 and 100 Freestyle and Shawn Chan in the 50 Freestyle.
Many swimmers raced hard and dropped significant time. Tyler Arnett dropped 3 seconds in the 200 Freestyle and 4 seconds in the 500 Freestyle. Wyatt Anderson dropped 4 seconds in the 200 Individual Medley and 3 seconds in the 500 Freestyle. Tony Aranda dropped 3 seconds in the 200 Individual Medley and 2 seconds in the 500 Freestyle. Madux Devitt dropped 5 seconds in the 50 Freestyle and 11 seconds in the 50 Backstroke. Jon Chan dropped time a second in the 100 Butterfly and 4 seconds in the 100 Breaststroke. Youssef Mohammed dropped 5 seconds in the 100 Backstroke. Keith Cameron broke 30 in the 50 Freestyle and dropped 2 seconds in the 100 Breaststroke.

Whitewater hosted the Rock Valley Conference Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, February 8. The Whippets ended up in 5th place in the 9 school tournament. Evansville/Albany was first for the 4th straight year.
Next Saturday, the team will travel to Evansville for the WIAA Regional tournament which will begin the selections for the State Tournament in Madison at the end of February.

The Whitewater Whippets Girls’ Basketball team defeated McFarland 61-57 on Thursday night, February 6.
The key to this win was determination and teamwork. Cora Linos and Brianna Zimdars defended well underneath. Cassidy Laue and Alyssa Schumacher scored well in the first half. We had four of our players score in double digits.
Kacie Carollo and Cassidy Laue both scored 15, followed by Alyssa Schumacher with 12, and Abby Grosinske with 11. Kacie Carollo and Abby Grosinske hit key free throws that helped us maintain our lead until we secured the win.
