On Friday, April 14, the Whippet Track & Field Team traveled to Clinton for the annual Clinton Relay. Squaring up against both conference and non-conference opponents, the Whippets performed well in the unseasonably warm temperatures. At the Clinton Relays, all events on the track were relay events, and all field events involved adding the distances and heights of three athletes’ throws and jumps to determine the winner. Overall, Whitewater’s teams held their own, placing 4th in both the boys’ and girls’ team competitions.
The following athletes and relay teams earned medals by placing in the Top-3 of their relay events:
Boys’ Distance Medley Relay: Nate Holden, Curtis Rossmiller, Miles Nickelsburg, Jack Hefty (1st)
Boys’ Discus Relay: Jake Kuhlow, Connor Raupp, Cole Schlicher (1st)
Boys’ Shot-Put Relay: Jake Kuhlow, Connor Raupp, Sam Radaj (2nd)
Boys’ Pole Vault Relay: CJ Tomomitsu, Cole Schlicher, Curtis Rossmiller (2nd)
Boys’ 4x100m Relay: Traysen Thomason, Quincy Boudreau, Nate Black, Ty Hagedorn (3rd)
Girls’ Pole Vault Relay: Evie Troxel, Izzy Dieter, Ella Spear (1st)

Girls’ Discus Relay: Izzy Dieter, Grace Foucault, Skylar Staebler (2nd)
Girls’ Distance Medley Relay: Mady Hefty, Grace Villarreal, Athena Soto, Nola Coburn (3rd)
Individually, Jake Kuhlow and Izzy Dieter had stellar performances, as their discus throws added both their names to the All-Time Top 10 list. Jake’s throw of 149’-11” is the 10th furthest throw by a WHS athlete, and Izzy’s toss of 117’-10” moved her into the #4 spot on Whitewater’s Top 10 list. Congratulations!
The Whippets are back in action this week at Brodhead on Tuesday, and at Oregon on Friday for the Oregon Panther Relays.

The Whitewater Softball Team grabbed the lead in the third inning and then held off East Troy to take home the victory 4-2 on Thursday, April 13.
East Troy scored twice in the 2nd inning to take a 2-0 lead, but Whitewater responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 2-2. Sydney Schilt hit a double to lead off the second and scored on an East Troy error. Reece Hammond made it to first on an error, and then promptly stole second. A throwing error from third base allowed Hammond to score, tying the game.
The Whippets grabbed the lead for good in the 3rd inning as Falyn Krahn got on by an error and then scored when Shyan Lesperance singled up the middle. Lesperance stole second and went to 3rd on a bad throw by the catcher. Lesperance would score on a ground out by Schilt, and Whitewater had a 4-2 lead.
East Troy put two runners on base with one out in the last inning but Schilt got the last two batters to ground out to end the game.
Sydney Schilt pitched all seven innings, giving up two hits, while striking out eight in the winning effort.

This past week Whitewater High School Wrestling Coach John Schimming was recognized by the Wisconsin Wrestling Coaching Association (WWCA) as District 6 Head Coach of the Year.
Words from Coach Paul Majors:
Coach Schimming has put together a program that emphasizes the total young person. Both young male and female wrestlers join the program because they want to give it a try. We truly believe they stay with the program because Whitewater High School Wrestling is all about developing not just the wrestler in youth but the whole person. Many times over the years, we’ve heard youth talk about how Coach Schimming has been the person in their lives who really went to bat for them and who is the closest thing to a father they’ve ever had. This year we had nearly 50 wrestlers in our program and that is amazing for a district with about 600 students in the high school. As someone who has volunteered in our program for nearly 20 years, I see firsthand some of the vast time and effort he puts into this program to serve youth. And I only see the part which occurs at school. I know there are countless other hours he dedicates to helping these youth succeed. His wife and kids even help with the program as well.
Congratulations to Coach Schimming on a very well-deserved recognition.
