There are no upcoming city meetings scheduled for this week. Happy Holidays!
University of Wisconsin System President Ray Cross announced Friday that Cheryl Green will serve as UW-Whitewater’s interim chancellor starting Jan. 1, 2019.
It was a hard fought battle, but unfortunately, we were unable to pull out the win against Big Foot. We turned the ball over too much and our shooting percentage hurt us the most. We had plenty of open shots, they just wouldn’t fall. Defensively, we communicated well and hustled. Jaden Henneman had 6 steals, Cassidy Laue led our scoring with 11, followed by Abby Grosinske and Kacie Carollo both with 8.
We are geeking out at Wisconsin Makers, December 26-28, 10am-5pm, Saturday, December 29, Showcase Day, 9am-2pm. This is a family event being held during the Holiday break. So, if your kids, grandkids and their friends are looking for something to do bring them down to the MakerSpace.
Just like that the Whippets surge to 2-1 in the Southern Lakes Conference with two wins, beating both Delavan-Darien and PSC Aquatics. The Whippets were able to win 8 out of 11 races and posted 16 best times. Posting Top 10 times for All Time were Devin Bazeley in the 100 Butterfly and 100 Breaststroke and Young Liang in the 100 Freestyle. We had several swimmers try some new races with great success. Zach Tomomitsu swam the 200 Freestyle, Jon Chan swam the 200 Individual Medley, Wesley Salverson swam the 100 Butterfly, Shawn Chan and Antonio Aranda took on the long race of the night swimming the 500 Freestyle and Jonathan Manriquez tried out the 100 Breaststroke. It is important with a small team to have all the athletes be capable of swimming any event at any time. We are getting closer to that with every meet.
Enjoy a free Christmas Day Meal at Whitewater Family Church on December 25 from noon to 4 pm.
Whitewater Middle School hosted a school-wide National Geographic Geography Bee on Wednesday, December 19.
Special congratulations to 7th-grader, Emerson Ellenwood, for his first place finish. Marina Linos, also a 7th-grader earned second place. Third place went to 6th-grader Carson Petitt. Emerson will now complete a qualifying test to go on and compete at the state level National Geographic Bee where he has a chance to win a $50,000 college scholarship.
Generac recently donated nine engines to the Technology and Engineering Program at Whitewater High School. These engines will be implemented in various classes and will primarily be used in a new Motorcycle, Marine, and Outdoor Power Products course. Whitewater High School would like to thank Generac for their generous donation.
Joyce was born on November 3, 1937, in the Town of Cold Spring in Jefferson County to L.J. and Jean (Rueth) Herde. Joyce enjoyed playing the piano at retirement homes including Fairhaven in Whitewater. In the early days, Joyce played her accordion in a dance band in the Whitewater and Jefferson area.
The coaches were very happy with the skill development of the Little Dribblers (ages 4-6) and shooting stars (ages 7-8) over the eight weeks. Players practiced shooting, dribbling, passing, rebounding, defense and listening skills.
UW-Whitewater Chancellor Beverly Kopper resigned from her position effective December 31, 2018.
The team is still putting up fast times and getting better each week! The Whippets traveled to Beloit Memorial to compete against a field of mainly Division 1 teams this past Saturday. Coming home with medals was Young Liang with his 1st place finish in the 100 Breaststroke, beating 34 competitors and 2nd place finish in the 200 Breaststroke. Devin Bazeley swam a strong 500 Freestyle and posted the 5th fastest time All Time.
On Saturday the Whippets wrestlers traveled to Mount Horeb to participate in a 16 team tournament and found great success as a team. The team wrestled very well throughout the tournament coming home with 5 runner-ups and 4 bronze medalists. The whippet depth proved to be enough to hold off Edgerton in the final team standings to bring home the team championship. The coaching staff was very happy with the performance of the day as everyone competing finished in the top five of their weight class and many had some big pins along the way.
