Comments from Coach Dittmer:

We won both our meets tonight, improving our team to a 6-4 record. Across the entire triangular there were some great matches! Austin Kaja and Nick Kuzoff won both of their matches on the night at #2 and #3 singles respectively. I was really impressed with their play tonight as they were very consistent and didn’t make many errors. They were able to come up with some of their best play at the big points. After losing his first match, Henry Bresser rebounded and dominated his second #4 singles match against University Lake. Slate Spear lost both his matches to two tough opponents. Our doubles tandem of Ramon Wence and Arno Crowley continues to impress. Even though they are only Freshmen, they played very poised during their matches. I couldn’t be happier with their results. Colin Chenoweth and Broderick Frye won a match and lost the other. I can tell that they are really starting to play well together. They really compliment each other’s strengths and weaknesses, which makes them a tough duo. Shane Kinson and Andy Vo looked good as well. Even though it was their first time playing together, they were still able to win in a 3rd-set tiebreak. Arturo Aguilar and Calvin Baker lost their lone match at #3 doubles, but I was happy with how they played. They typically play JV, but had to step up and play varsity due to some absences. I thought this was the best they played all season. Our season continues tomorrow with another home meet against Big Foot.

Comments from Coach Dittmer:

McFarland beat us 7-0 tonight dropping us to 1-3 in conference play. There is not a lot to say except that we ran into a very good team tonight.

McFarland had exceptional players from the top to the bottom of their lineup that could all place the ball and control the net. In his losing effort, I felt Austin Kaja played a good match. After losing the first set 6-0, he was willing to adjust his game and move into the net more which helped him improve to a 6-3 defeat in the second set. Henry Bresser got off to a strong start in his match and did a good job attacking the net which forced some errors from his opponent. However, his opponent was able to raise his play as the match went on and won a lot of the big points. Our #3 doubles also showed some promise in their 6-2, 6-3 loss. They got themselves into some great positions, but just were not able to put the point away when they needed to. Credit McFarland for some great hustle and the ability to win the critical points.

Our next meet is home tomorrow against University Lake School. I am hoping that we can come out and play a little better than we did tonight.
