LeRoy Butler Does One Last Lambeau Leap After His Name is Unveiled

The inventor of the Lambeau Leap was honored by having his name unveiled on the stadium facade on November 17. The following excerpts are from an article by Jason Wilde in the State Journal.

“At the same end of Lambeau Field where he once leapt into the stands to create one of the most iconic celebrations in NFL history, Green Bay Packers legendary safety LeRoy Butler saw his name was unveiled on the stadium’s historic façade during Thursday’s prime-time matchup with the Tennessee Titans.

And then, he did one last Lambeau Leap for good measure.

Joined on the field by his family and a host of his 1990s teammates — Frank Winders, Sean Jones, Santana Dotson, Antonio Freeman, Earl Dotson and others — Butler thanked the fans (and his sponsors) during a brief address to the crowd.

But first, team president/CEO Mark Murphy called for the unveiling of Butler’s name. Calling him “an integral part of our dominant defenses of the 1990s” and introducing him as the “inventor of the Lambeau Leap,” Murphy had the green tarpaulin removed from the wall, where Butler’s name and tenure with the team (1990-2001) appeared on the façade in the stadium’s southeast corner.”

Aleah Grundahl (UW-W photo)

Editor’s note: The following announcement is from the UW-W Women’s Basketball page.

University of Wisconsin-Whitewater senior forward Aleah Grundahl (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) reached the 1,000-point milestone as the Warhawks topped Millikin University 79-69 Saturday evening in the team’s final game of the UW-Whitewater Tipoff Tournament.

Grundahl became the 18th player in program history to record 1,000 career points. She hit the mark on a jumper with just over six minutes left in the contest. She was named to the All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of the four-game tournament. Kacie Carollo (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) was voted the UW-Whitewater Tipoff Tournament MVP.

The Warhawks came out on fire hitting 64-percent of their shots in the first quarter but the Big Blue hung in. After an even first quarter, 21-21, the Warhawks broke out in the second. UWW outscored the Big Blue 25-13 in the second to take a 46-34 lead into halftime.

Millikin outscored UWW 15-13 after a third quarter but the Warhawks had ample cushion to seal the win.

UW-Whitewater took advantage of their 19 offensive rebounds outscoring Millikin 22-12 in second chance points. The Warhawks enjoyed a 10-rebound advantage on the glass in the game.

UWW shot 46-percent from the floor and 47-percent from long range in the game. Both teams dropped in 12 free throws.

Grundahl paced the Warhawks with 25 points on 10-15 from the floor adding six boards, three assists, three steals and a pair of blocks. Kacie Carollo (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) posted a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Renee Rittmeyer (Winnebago, Ill./Winnebago) and Lunden Alexander (Dolton, Ill./Thornwood) rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11 and 10 respectively.

Kilar Selected as WVCA First Team All-State

Whippet Volleyball Senior Kindyl Kilar was selected by the Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association (WVCA) as a First Team All-State selection. Kindyl played a 6 rotation outside for the Whippets and ended her career as a Whippet on top of the leaderboard.

Kindyl was selected as the RVC first team All-Conference, AVCA Best and Brightest First Team, Team Offensive Player of the Year, Team Co-Defensive Player of the Year, Team MVP and Captain, and now 1st team all-state.

Kindyl averaged 6.3 kills per set, with 564 kills this season, which placed her number one in the Whippet record book, and number one in Division 2 for the state. Her season stats include .322 hitting percentage, 62 Aces (99.2%, 1 error), 25 total Blocks, and 314 Digs.

Even more impressive are her career stats, which she accomplished in only 2 ½ years. Her time as a Whippet was shortened due to a knee surgery her freshman year, and a shortened COVID year playing only in the Spring her sophomore year. Career stats include; 1172 Kills (1st in school history), 147 Aces (4th in school history), 50 blocks, 727 Digs (5th in school history).

Kindyl will be signing her National Letter of Intent to play at Florida International University (FIU) on November 30th.

Coach Kilar commented, “Kindyl was a great leader for this Whippet Program. Her presence will be missed, but we know she left her teammates with an example of what it means to be a team leader that will not soon be forgotten. Kindyl is a special player, and FIU is getting a great one!”

No. 10 Warhawk Football Claims Share of WIAC Title on Record Day, Punches Ticket to NCAA Playoffs Box Score

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater trounced UW-Stevens Point 79-10 to secure a share of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title for the 39th time in program history. The Warhawks set a number of program records in the win including points in a game surpassing the previous record of 75 that had stood since 2006.

The Warhawks hold a share of the league title with UW-La Crosse but earn the conference’s automatic bid into NCAA Division III playoffs with a victory over the Eagles this season.

UW-Whitewater dominated in the first half behind a record performance on the ground for Jaylon Edmonson. His four touchdowns tie the program record for rushing TDs in a game. In addition to the points record, UWW also broke team records for rushing touchdowns (10), touchdowns (11), points after touchdowns (11). The Warhawks 523 yards rushing is just 46 shy of the program record set in 1987.

The Pointers took the opening kick, drove down and hit a 30-yard field goal to take a 3-0 lead. After that, it was all UWW.
On the Warhawks’ second play from scrimmage, Edmonson went up the gut for 66 yards and his first touchdown. He scored again on his next carry, a 19-yard scamper up the middle to make it 14-3 on UWW’s next possession.

A fumble on UWSP’s punt was downed at the Pointers’ nine. Tamir Thomas was tapped for the carry and he followed Edmonson’s lead, going up the middle for a touchdown. The next drive featured a 44-yard Thomas rush to the one followed by an Edmonson punch in for his third rushing TD of the contest.

The Warhawks’ next score came through the air as Evan Lewandowski hit Tyler Holte for a 51-yard touchdown strike. The final score of the quarter came on a bad snap on a Pointer punt that went through the back of the endzone for a safety and a 37-3 UWW lead.

By halftime, the UW-Whitewater lead ballooned to 65-3.

UW-Stevens Point scored on a 33-yard pass play in the third. Preston Strasburg registered his second touchdown of the day on a 38-yard run and Alijah Maher-Parr wrapped up the scoring with a one-yard touchdown run to close out the scoring.

The Warhawks registered 644 yards of offense in the game. Makaio Harn had a phenomenal second half with 122 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries. Edmonson tallied the program record four TD carries with 112 yards on five rushes. Strasburg added 107 yards on the ground and a pair of rushing touchdowns.

Lewandowski was 5-5 for 106 yards and the one passing TD. Jason Ceniti and Jackson Chryst captained the offense in the second half. Holte led the Warhawks with 84 yards on three receptions.

Defensively, Ethan Gallagher tallied eight tackles including a tackle for a loss of two yards and a quarterback hurry. Joey Antoniette posted seven tackles while Reed Farrington and Kyle Gallagher each posted sacks in the contest.

The Warhawks will find out where and who they’ll open the 2022 NCAA Division III playoffs with during the selection show Sunday evening. The first round of playoffs is scheduled for Saturday, November 19.

UW-W Men Top Augustana Behind Barnstable’s 27

UW-Whitewater Men Top Augustana Behind Barnstable’s 27  |  Box Score

By Angela Kelm, Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Information

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men’s basketball team opened the 2022-23 campaign with a 95-90 win at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois Tuesday night.

Miles Barnstable wrote his name in the UWW record book in his first collegiate outing. The freshman guard scored 27 on 5-6 from the field, 2-3 from three-point range and 15-16 from the free throw line. His 15 from the charity stripe is the fifth-most by a Warhawk in a game in program history and the most since 2003.

Teammate Trevon Chislom (McFarland, Wis./McFarland) shared team-high honors with Barnstable with 27 points going 11-18 from the floor and 4-4 from long range. Chislom bolstered the Warhawks with 20 points in the 20 minutes.

UW-Whitewater was efficient offensively in the contest shooting 56% from the field, 60% from downtown and 78% from the line. The Warhawks kicked it up a notch in the second half draining 68% of their shots from the floor and 80% from beyond the arc to hold off the Vikings.

The game was close throughout with nine lead changes and ten ties in the 40-minute contest. Augustana jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead right out of the gate. They extended the gap to seven, 12-5, just over four minutes in for their largest lead of the game.

Jameer Barker (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine’s) gave UWW its first lead of the game, 15-14, on a free throw with 10:31 on the clock. He drained a triple in the Warhawks’ next possession. The rest of the first half was a battle of the bigs with Chislom exchanging buckets with the Vikings’ preseason All-American Dan Carr as the teams went into the intermission tied 42-42.

The second half came down to free throws. UW-Whitewater was 19-24 from the line while the defense limited the trips to the stripe for Augustana. The Vikings hit 7-14 in the final 20 minutes of action. Barnstable was 9-9 from the line to bolster his 17-point second half performance.

Barker and Nick Pierson joined Barnstable and Chislom in double figures with 14 and 10 points respectively. Barker added a team-high five assists and three steals. Delvin Barnstable hauled in six rebounds to lead UWW.
